Jan 20th 2009 Forget “Louie Louie”
The wartime hit “Rum and Coca-Cola” really was an off-color calypso ditty, and the story behind it is quite a yarn. I don’t have time to go into it this morning, but it involves prostitution, anti-imperialism, radio-play bans, a mega-hit, lawsuits and the character “Buddy” from The Dick Van Dyke Show. I tell you, it’s worth looking up.
