Apr 23rd 2009 It’s how you say it

Brian sent me this via email: This is the first time I have ever seen something like this. I have in my possession a newspaper from The Shelbyville (TN) Times Gazette dated Friday, July 13, 2007, and it has titled The Born Loser a comic strip that clearly is Arlo & Janis.  Now I don’t know if this is a typo or just human error, but I thought you should be aware of it.

Brian, I appreciate you watching out for me, but this sort of thing is not uncommon in newspaper composing rooms everywhere, or whatever has replaced newspaper composing rooms. Daily comics pages almost always are made up days in advance by underlings near the bottom of the journalism pecking order. Additionally, those near the top of the pecking order seldom deign to oversee comics production, because, well, it’s just the comics, for pity’s sake! A strip run in the wrong spot or even on the wrong day is not out of the ordinary. I have known newspapers to inadvertently leave out a comics section entirely. On days like that, you learn why those near the top of the journalism pecking order truly resent the comics.

Again, I thank you for thinking of me, Brian, but on the list of things I have to worry about, this one is near the bottom.
