Aug 24th 2011 It was always green!

This is another strip that’s dated in today’s world, probably was when it was drawn in 1991. We had succotash and cornbread and mystery meat when I was in school. Today, it’s hamburgers and pizza and nachos.

When I was a young boy, I hated lunchroom food. Much of the time, I inveigled my poor mother into packing me a sack lunch. However, by the time I reached high school, I ate the cafeteria food with relish. Figuratively, I mean. Condiments were limited to salt and pepper. The food actually was very good, if not always like Mom made. There was a trained dietician in charge of a full kitchen and staff, dedicated to laying out a hot, balanced lunch every day. I think the price was up to $2.50 per week by the time I graduated. I must say, I never did warm up to the congealed salads.
