Sometimes, what isn’t drawn is more important than what is. I call this a lesson in “comic kinetics.” Tension builds in the first panels, reaching a peak in the third as Gene, playing the young legal eagle, wrestles with his curiosity. It is obvious he loses and the result is a frenetic burst of mayhem, fear and writhing “snakes.” Of course, this isn’t shown in the cartoon; only the aftermath which is utterly devoid of tension. This is because you can imagine the crisis better than I can draw it. See? You should have been a cartoonist!
