I became an inveterate label reader in 2006, when my heart started attacking me. It’s an interesting excercise, and in some cases I do mean “exercise.” You know the consensus of the real-food crowd: shop around the edges of the supermarket, staying away from the interior aisles. From the bewildering quagmire that is nutritional advice, I think this simple path makes sense. I try to follow it, but I’m finding that life without soap and garbage bags can be very difficult.
