Remember “meteorological winter?” It was a term that came up here about a month ago. I was telling you about a weather tidbit I’d heard on TV. “Take heart” was the message: we were more than halfway through “meteorological winter.” Supposedly, the three coldest months of the year—December, January and February—make up meteorological winter. You might not know it, but we now are completely through MW and are almost through calendar winter. Heaven only knows when we’ll be finished with “real winter.” It probably won’t surprise any of you to learn they’ve already predicted a colder and wetter March than normal, at least in the eastern United States. Meteorological winter. I’d never heard that one before this year, but then I’ve heard a lot of new descriptions for winter lately.
