This is a “Tamarack,” a 34.5-foot, steel-hull schooner designed by Thomas Colvin. Here are the specs, if you’re that interested. There is no reason I’ve borrowed heavily from this boat beyond the fact I was familiar with the design and thought it filled the bill nicely as “Gus’ boat.” The boat in the specs, by the way, was named “Orbit,” and it was abandoned at sea near Ireland when it was severely damaged in rough weather. The boat seen here was in a boatyard in Demopolis, Alabama, when I took the picture.
