Someone yesterday mentioned this first-day-of-spring effort which was drawn in 1997, much further back than I’d realized when I began searching for it, alas. Early in A&J history I began doodling with short poems on occasions when I wanted to do something a bit different or when I was stuck for a better idea. My first efforts were simple rhyming couplets, until it dawned on me the inherently comical limerick was more interesting and usually fit the four-panel format of my comic strip quite well. Since then, my poetry efforts have almost all been in that direction. Some limericks have been better than others. This one is one of my favorites, although many readers remember only Janis’ diaphanous robe.
