Buy the new book, "Beaucoup Arlo & Janis!"Today's "Arlo & Janis!"

I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I’ve been traveling a bit, and I’ve been in some pretty technologically unfriendly places over the past few days. I did not intend to leave you unattended quite this long, but I’m here now. I’m going to leave you today with the last three cartoons from the series wherein Janis first bobbed her flowing locks, which I said I would do last week. It’s good to be back.

We were worried JJ. Welcome home!

wow – a bonus! 3 strips today – and great ones they are!

Welcome back. I know exactly what you are talking technologlly unfriendly places. There is a place not far from here, (in East Texas), where even a GPS won’t work right, and you can just forget about cell phones.

Oh, Lord! I can breathe again! Welcome back, Jimmy!

Today’s strip…exactly the same thing happened last week when we took our cat to the doctor.

    “Guy Noir here.”
“Sorry, Mr Noir, we won’t be needing your services.”
    “Did the guy turn up?”
“Yes. Turns out he was just in the boonies for a few days. No wifi.”
    “Guess it could’ve been worse.”
“True. He could have been at a South Dakota ski resort.”

  7. Symply Fargone on 02 May 2012 at 9:14 am #

I’ve shown the last one in the series from today in the retro area to my girlfriend….just yesterday she did “it” with her hair, I think it looks Symply Fargone after she looks up!

Trucker Ron, posted before I read the priors……nice “black” angle! Fargone!

Welcome home! I know, you did it on purpose – just wanted to see if we would miss you – LOL

Well, we did! And happy that you are safe and well.

Appearances link? Hope you have some upcoming soon (other than the one in Knoxville I won’t be able to attend) somewhere in the Southeast (Atlanta, B’ham, Charlotte, Louisville, etc.).

  11. Sandy on 02 May 2012 at 9:58 am #

It’s good to have you back! We were starting to get a teensy bit worried.

  12. minnesotadon on 02 May 2012 at 10:16 am #

I too don’t want anything to happen to Jimmy but lighten up folks. A guy deserves to be gone for a few days without us tagging along or if he is out of pocket we should not have to be coddled every day. Yes it is fun.

the bottom one was a keeper the first time I saw it; what men like – that wild look.
about today’s – now Ludwig will never trust him again, but I don’t have a cat, do they have good memories?

  14. Jerry in Fl on 02 May 2012 at 11:00 am #

Ok, We cancelled the billboards and John Walsh says htat he probably will be able to take the segment out of “Most Wanted”. That just leaves the question of the award. I reccomend that we use it to buy a couple of the new double size Mark Twin stamps and send them to JJ so that he will have another means of communication next time that he visits the far side.

John in RT, the one’s who have owned me have ways displayed elephant like memories.

  16. Jerry in Fl on 02 May 2012 at 11:12 am #

John in Tx, Better than mine. Cilla lets me know if I forget to put two icecubes in her drinking water. Spunky turns up her nose if she gets the same flavor of canned food two days in a row. They all recognize people that they know and like and form an instant opinion about people that they are meeting for the first time. The smallest new item brought into the home has to be inspected and approved by the kitty committee.

    Juhn in R T-
Just like humans, cats remember what they want to remember.
Getting on the counter is not allowed – forget that one.
The can of catnip is stored in the red, wooden toybox along with all the spare toys – never to be forgotten.
That raven in the back yard is bigger and tougher than you are – not worth remembering.
The best water comes from a dripping bathtub faucet – store that memory away forever.

I think the pattern is: if the memory relates to food or comfort it is stored; if the memory involves discipline or embarrassing moments don’t bother keeping it.

If the woman wants her hair a certain way, that’s the way it’s going to be.

  19. Bob in Orland Park on 02 May 2012 at 12:02 pm #

AHA! Now I know where you’ve been, peeking in my window. Today’s strip is exactly what happens in our house but I’m always the bad guy.

  20. Dave in Seattle on 02 May 2012 at 3:23 pm #

One of the best things my Daughter would do for me while she lived at home (and actually still does) would be to catch me as I was coming in the house and remind me to notice Mom’s hair

My wife’s hair changes were many times too subtle for me to notice without help.

Without my Daughters help I would have been toast.

  21. Mary in Ohio on 02 May 2012 at 4:18 pm #

Cats having better memories than me is not necessarily a feat these days, but when I bring the carrier into the house the older ones disappear. Little Orion, on the other hand, climbs right in, which makes it awkward when I catch the one that is actually SUPPOSED to go to the vet.

Also, at a certain age, doing “it” with your hair would result in falling-down dizziness.

Glad you are back safe and sound, JJ.

Perfect – just got my hair cut today and will do this move for my husband when her comes home. :)

  23. Hoag in MA on 02 May 2012 at 6:54 pm #

I do remember when Janis made this change. I also remember not really being comfortable with the new look until she did “it”.
My favorite strips to follow seem to be those that “grow” and/or evolve over time. I don’t know if it is harder or easier on cartoonists who choose this path, but I find it keeps my attention and involvement knowing I won’t see the same gags over and over. (OK, maybe occasionally).
Take all the time you need to get lost occasionally, just be sure to call home before midnight to let us know you’re all right.

One of the comments on today’s strip had it exactly right: MEOW is catspeak for “all your curtain are belong to us.”

Like apco above I hoping the Appearances link reappears. Need to start planning my summer vacation!

  26. Ruth Anne in Winter Park on 02 May 2012 at 7:57 pm #

That would be “I’m hoping”, of course.

  27. Mindy on 02 May 2012 at 8:46 pm #

I recall someone doing “it” in the movie, “Shawshank Redemption,” when the inmates were watching an old black & white classic, but I can’t remember who the “It” girl was! Or is that supposed to be a Farrah move or something?

Welcome back Jimmy! And thanks for the rest of the series. I agree with Bryan about cats’ memories. They work just fine for the important stuff. Best way to keep cat from being scared of a carrier is to leave it on the floor, open, so he can investigate it on his own time. Once he gets used to it, it isn’t so much of a problem getting him in. It also helps to stand it on end and lower him in rather than trying to push him in. Keeps him from getting all four feet braced on the door opening.

Pam- how did your husband like the haircut and “the move?” Love that.

I loved today’s strip (5/3/12). I woke up at 1:30 and my legs were sore. Had to try both couches, with different pillows, even woke the cats to cuddle with me. Finally went back to bed and fell asleep. Fortunately the CPAC keeps me from snoring, but that strip was me last night.

  33. Mr.Q on 03 May 2012 at 7:27 am #

Note to self…no need to find photo of Jimmy for a milk carton. Or should missing cartoonist go on six-packs? Whichever.
    Glad your back!
