Slightly less than 10 years ago, it still was possible to draw a cartoon about a landline-based answering machine without appearing to be completely out of touch. I remember that feeling well, the feeling that an answering machine afforded me no peace, that I always was “on call.” Little did I know what the future held. Oh, I had a cell phone 10 years ago, as did many people, but I don’t remember it being the unrelenting master that it is today; maybe that’s called “nostalgia.”
