I
always have strived to prevent A&J from being a "wordy"
strip, but there's no doubt almost all my early work
was based on dialog. That's understandable, since I
studied and worked as a journalist. As I've learned my
craft as a cartoonist, however, I've become much better
at the "sight" gag, or a joke that depends on visuals,
such as this one. I do many of them now.
