These are two of my best friends, John and Carole, picking through the debris of their home. They saved some dishes, some CDs, a few knick-knacks and a surprising amount of artwork, much of it still hanging on the wall after the Gulf of Mexico came calling. Speaking of the gulf, where it is visible at the left, a large, two-story house stood before Katrina.
