I’ve repeated several cat cartoons here the past few days, and the cat fanciers among you obviously have had fun. I like a lot of the cat cartoons, myself; they’re my little diversion. However, it occurs to me that, for unknown reasons, I don’t often repeat cat cartoons here on the Web site. I’ll try to show more in the future, but for those of you who don’t fancy cats I promise not to overdo it.

I just looked back and saw that only three of the seven previous repeats were Cat-centric– man, it felt more like eight of the past seven! I live in a cat-free household (I know some prefer the term cat-less). I’ve been feeling like a person without kids must feel when he’s surrounded by talk of peek-a-boo and little league. Just never understood the cat thing.

I missed yesterday’s blog and was catching up. I just have to ask you a question Jimmy:

I’m tired of the corporate world and would love to break out on my own. How the heck does someone get a stream of customers begging you to create products for them to buy? We’ve all begged for the books and I see people want shirts and mugs and anything to do with A&J. That is some business model you’ve got there man.

But yeah – any word on that A&J treasury? Did that publisher not get the sense we’re all junkies waiting for a big fix????

I suggest LudwigTheCat.com. I believe he’s earned his own site.

As long as he’s willing to maintain it. — JJ

    John,

That sounds like the perfect title for the Jimmy Johnson fansite. Get to it – chop chop!

Mr. Johnson, I don’t know what arrangements you have with United Media, but I honestly think you could easily get enough preorders to do T-shirts on your own (though, I guess Cafepress &c does save you the trouble of having to mail out orders yourself – still, you could prolly hire and intern …).

I’ve actually considered sending you “How to Make Webcomics” for an ‘executive review’ (I like three of the authors and wouldn’t mind giving them a bit more business) to see what you think of the ‘yung’uns’.

I’m aware of that book. I’ll give it a look-see on the Web (even buy it if I have to!), and we can discuss it later. Thanks. — JJ

    Re: Today’s retro.

No matter how great the “technique” might be, it is absolutely worthless if the “timing” is not right. I learned this valuable lesson early in my teen days when I took a SoHK (School of Hard Knocks) course in Feminine Mystique. This course was sub-titled “The appropriate use of TNT (Timing N Technique) in the average relationship”. (I made a B+ in that course.)

Janis might SAY Arlo is aggravating her, but I see that little smile and the raised eyebrows in the second panel. I think Arlo quit too soon.

Still, it never hurts to come up with a bit of new material over the years.

Well, from looking at the schnockered look of Arlo in the first panel and seeing the little x’s above his head (the international comic symbol for the imbibation of distilled spirits), it is perfectly obvious that Arlo has been listening to Buffett again, drank all the margaritas he made for him and Janis and can feel the romantic impulses that thoughts of sandy beaches and sailboats can inspire. Janis, however, is reading about the gas prices going up and up and therefore, has not a romantic notion in her head at this time. At which time, Arlo heads back to the refrigerator to seek more margarita concoctions.

I’d have to say that his line ties into his other that I’ve stolen for myself: “I’m no longer the man I once pretended to be.”
    And time rolls on……..

I agree with Jean that Arlo probably did give up too soon…after all, Janis didn’t really say “no.” And she does appear as though she might be responsive to the right kind and amount of “aggravation.”

By the way, do you know what a “morner” is? It’s sooner than a nooner.

    Mary:

Sex, bread and cats. You forgot the bread.

My vote is hereby registered for the Ludwig t-shirt. I’ll take a couple dozen in various sizes – the first for me and the rest to give to all my cat-loving friends and relations.
