I saw “Midnight in Paris” a few days ago, the first time I’d been inside a cinema in months. I wish I could say something snarky, but I rather enjoyed the experience. Most central to my pleasure was the movie, of course. I can recommend “Midnight in Paris,” especially if you’re a fan of the City of Light. Owen Wilson did a great job as Woody Allen; if you see the movie, you’ll know what I mean. Kathy Bates is always great. She played Gertrude Stein. No, it’s not exactly a period piece, but I don’t want to give any more away. The audience was mature, although not ancient I was happy to note, so everyone around me wasn’t texting constantly. The theater wasn’t crowded. I’ve noticed they seldom are for the movies I want to see. Oh! I know: the previews went on forever, and there was not one movie among them that I’ll be going back to see.
