A hundred years ago, Lanett Mill was among the largest textile mills in the world. My father spent his working years there following World War II, retiring at 65. On the banks of the Chattahoochee River, Lanett was the flagship mill of WestPoint Manufacturing, then WestPoint Pepperell, then WestPoint Stevens and finally some vestige called WestPoint Home. WestPoint Home announced just this month that what's left of Lanett Mill, in Lanett, AL, will close in November.
