The above Sunday A&J was drawn four years ago. I’m not sure why, but I’ve always liked it. When I observe the cats in their endless loop between the food bowl and a comfortable napping place, such a glitch certainly seems possible. I’ve produced a lot of Sunday comics I’m proud of, but I’ve never been fond of the Sunday format, supposedly the comic-strip cartoonist’s big stage. Not being the strongest graphic artist starting out, I was intimidated by Sundays, and still am to be honest. Plus, the timing of my humor seems best suited for the rim-shot wisecrack of the four-panel strip that I do the other six days. Every now and then, however, an idea comes along that can be served only by more space. This would be an example. And it’s cute and simple. A cartoonist can dine for a long time on cute and simple.
