This is another request, inspired by the earlier wine-related cartoon of a few days back. I’ve enjoyed the talk about seasons and related astronomy. When I lived in Tennessee, the “Sportsman’s One-Stop,” a general store for everything from groceries to night crawlers, would put one of those portable signs on the roadside, beginning about New Year’s Day. It would change every day to say, accordingly, “Only _____ days until spring!” It always gave us hope. I couldn’t get very excited about the summer solstice this year, usually one of my favorite milestones. The temperature had topped 100 on several days already, and summer arrived on a Tuesday, of all days. Maybe I’ll barbecue something this weekend and try to salvage a bit of pomp.
