Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Birds” may have been the first contemporary movie made for adult audiences that I ever saw with just my buddies. I remember being terrified. I remember loving it. Hitch’s blonde du jour was Tippi Hedrin. He had a thing for those blondes. Second billing went to Suzanne Pleshette. I don’t understand it. In Ms. Pleshette, he had one of the most striking women in movies, and he lets her eyes get pecked out, while the pale Ms. Hedrin flutters and shrieks her way to “The End,” which was somewhat unsatisfying, looking back. And they were such beautiful eyes!
