A pithy comic strip about life, love, lust and puthy cats.

Dishwasher Safe

By Jimmy Johnson

I don’t normally do a lot for Columbus Day. I don’t think many people do, outside certain neighborhoods in New York City. However, this year I took a little trip over the holiday weekend, but I am back. I was on the road for eight hours yesterday, and, of course, rain fell on this part of the world for the first time in about six weeks. No on is complaining, though. The lawns are dead, and even established shrubbery was beginning to suffer. Today’s oldie is from June of 2011. Disclosure: the dishwasher in my house is more like a “clean-dish hider.” Loading it and pushing a button is easy; unloading it is the onerous part.

Mine was always more of a “clean dishwasher”. Dirty tableware got hand-washed as it was generated. Clean tableware got pulled, loaded and run in the washer about once a quarter to be sanitized and de-dusted. Also, if you don’t run your automatic dishwasher occasionally, the door seal can dry out and leak when it is used.
Thus endeth today’s “Hints from Heloise.” Remember her? Fun factoid (according to Wikipedia): The newspaper column continues to this day, now written by Ponce Kiah Marchelle Heloise Cruse Evans, the original Heloise’s daughter.

I posted a comment that included a link to yesterday’s Calvin and Hobbes strip, but it hasn’t shown up. I seem to recall that URL’s ar verboten. So I’ll repeat it without the link. There is an interesting synchronicity between today’s A&J and yesterday’s C&H strips. Both are about big cats not purring. As Yogi Berra said, you could look it up. Coincidence, Jimmy?

I remember working in Food Service at our dorm and getting promoted to Waiter Captain. There were certain people that you could count on to work on cleaning the dishes and I was glad for the promotion because I wasn’t one of them. However being in charge meant having to make sure that they job got done, so I would have to pitch in.

Besides having high standards for the food, especially meat, Purdue was very vigilant in regards to the temperature of the water in the dishwasher. As far as I knew there were never any health issues in regards to to food prep at the dorms.

Ghost, I found your quotes very appropriate. I have some neighbors that used to have flags with a certain person’s name on them. They all came down a long time ago. One guy had a large flagpole in his front yard and he took the pole down. We took Cilla to the vet because one of her eyes is looking different. The vet has referred us to a cat eye specialist and we have an appointment tomorrow. We fear the worst. The vet thinks that there is some kind of tumor behind her eye. I’ll keep you informed.
