As advertised, here are a couple of oldies from the fall of 1985. Arlo & Janis strips don’t come much older than these. From the Where-Do-You-Get-Your-Ideas Dept., the top cartoon pretty much was lifted from real life. Victor Hugo supposedly said, “To err is human, to stroll is Parisian.” Apparently, it’s A&J, too. Walking and conversing while doing so obviously have been a favored motif since the beginning.

I have a cornucopia of useless information. It is a double edged sword. I can remember quite a bit of detail, which is impressive, but like Arlo, so of that detail probably is better unsaid. The real drawback are the times that I honestly don’t remember something and my wife tells be “But YOU remember EVERYTHING!” Sadly those are things that I really should remember!
I can give you word-for-word transcriptions of conversations I had when I was 3 (I’m now 64) – but alas, my memory is the very definition of “random access”; just because I can call most of my life up by no means means I can do so when I want, concerning what I want……………….
JJ-Thanks for the Oldies from another Oldie
I remember the long drive, pre-Interstate Hwy in too many places, down to St George UT… and it snowed on the way! (And I remember the romantic stuff, too.)
I can’t forget my wedding day. The wallpaper on my laptop is a picture of two smiling people walking hand in hand down the aisle as they exit the church on their way to 54 years of wedded bliss. Here’s to 54 more.
Jimmy: Speaking of memory, the 10-2-85 cartoon above is the only one I can remember seeing that was signed “JIMMY JOHNSON” rather than just “JOHNSON”. Is there a story behind that?
Hey, I just gave you the fodder for a post, didn’t I? 🙂
What a treat to see these strips!!! Our local paper didn’t carry A&J until much later.
I think I was at that wedding…. The chapel was cold!
My battery died the day before my wedding and we had to drive her car. Neither of us had parents there. And the temperature was just fine.
I think Arlo looks younger now!
It was questionable there would be a wedding or an elopement. On and off. The minister went camping and we found him in shorts unlloading his tent. The best man came by helicopter off a rig, maid of honor off a floght break, stewardess.
Florist forgot order, so did bakery. I lost so much weight wedding dress could not be taken up more and hung on me. Groom had a bone gp into his muscle and lost his voice.
48 rocky years. I cried on honeymoon for hours.
Careers as a newspaper reporter, reference book editor, and now historian have left me filled with random facts, but I’m not sure much of it counts as wisdom. “A goofy-looking storehouse of useless information, but a generally nice guy,” my now-wife once described me.
Since we have been getting our medical information from the Facebook School of Medicine as we our Constitutional Law from the Facebook School of Law, I decided to consult the Wikipedia School of Physics to try to understand today’s strip:
Quantum entanglement is a physical phenomenon that occurs when a pair or group of particles is generated, interact, or share spatial proximity in a way such that the quantum state of each particle of the pair or group cannot be described independently of the state of the others, including when the particles are separated by a large distance. The topic of quantum entanglement is at the heart of the disparity between classical and quantum physics: entanglement is a primary feature of quantum mechanics lacking in classical mechanics.
As the Duke would say “You better have a smile on your face when you say that pard’ner” 😀
