I think a lot of people my age find themselves confronted with issues similar to Gene, not so much, “What will I study?” but “What will I do with the rest of my life?” Whether planning to enjoy a traditional retirement or simply facing the fact that time is running out, people who’ve made it this far get a “last chance,” so to speak, to take control of circumstances. Anyway, I know I feel this way sometimes, which is not to say I’ve benefited from any revelations yet.
