I was pleasantly surprised by the response to yesterday’s Arlo & Janis, the CSI: Mayberry cartoon. Maybe I shouldn’t have been. I know for a fact lots of people fondly remember the classic television comedy—meaning the black and white episodes featuring Don Knotts, of course. To this day, there are friends to whom I remember myself with the phrase “Gomer says, Hey!” (to which the proper response is, “Hey to Gomer.”) My bona fides in this area is solid. Buddies and I were charter members of the Otis Campbell Chapter of the Andy Griffith Rerun-Watchers Club when I lived in Jackson, Mississippi, not long before I dreamed up Arlo & Janis. You can imagine how ground-floor we had to be to snag that chapter name! That was about the last club I joined.
