Two things that get us going around here are memories and food. Well, how about a food memory? When I was a boy, television production was based in New York City. On TV, there would be frequent mention of “pizza.” At that time, there was no pizza in my little town, hard as that is to believe now. I asked my mother, “What’s pizza?” I’m not entirely sure she knew exactly what pizza was herself, but she told me, “It’s sort of a meat pie.” All I could think of was chicken pot pie, which I detested, and I was sure I wouldn’t like pizza. I was an adolescent before a little place called “The Pizza Shack” opened just north of town, and the truth was revealed.
