Speaking of movies and being born, it’s almost that time of year. “It’s a Wonderful Life” will be showing on TV, again, but only on NBC. You’ve probably all heard that one.
“It’s a Wonderful Life” was a 1946 movie directed by Frank Capra and starring Jimmy Stewart. It was nominated for five Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor, but won none. It was eclipsed by “The Best Years of Our Lives.” What a year for movies, huh? “It’s a Wonderful Life” did not do well at the box office, however, and was more or less forgotten until the 70s, when its copyright was allowed to lapse. Television stations then could and did air it for free, and the rest is history, including the part where copyrights were renewed and are now owned by NBC. If you want the long version.
