I’m tired of waiting for the perfect spring day to bring you a perfect-spring-day cartoon, so here it is. Yesterday here was sunny and mild and not bad. Today, however, is back to cool and overcast. I don’t expect any sympathy from those of you with snow still on the ground, but that doesn’t change my expectations of what April should be.

I get impatient for spring, because what I really like to do is sit out in the evening, much like you see Arlo doing so often, and watch the sun go down on the backyard flora and fauna. This is, admittedly, an older person’s perspective. My parents once did the same thing, and I would think, as I cadged the car keys from my old man, “How pathetic.” Now, it’s my turn. I don’t think I’m ready for the boneyard. In fact, I have far more opportunities for amusement available to me now than did my teen-aged version above. It’s just that sitting and observing is what I want to do. Maybe I am spent. Maybe it is nature’s way of easing me off onto a chlorophyll ice floe. Heaven knows, if you bother to sit and watch, you know nature works efficiently and relentlessly.
