I’m a little late with this, but here’s a Father’s Day A&J from 1993. Did you read the news? We’re all going to have our picture taken this afternoon. At 5:27 p.m. EDT, the Cassini space probe will take a picture of Saturn from the far side, and visible in the picture will be a tiny pixel-wide earth. A similar picture has been taken a time or two before, but this one will surpass the others in clarity—or something. In one of those fun stunts NASA sometimes pulls to keep us jaded earthlings interested in the amazing things they do, the space agency is encouraging everyone to look up, smile and wave. That might work out just fine for me! That’s exactly the time I’ll be settling in my backyard garden to unwind with an adult beverage. Hold it. I’m on CDT! I may have to start early.
Cartoonist’s note: As reported below by Bob, the photo event is July 19, not today. Sorry! — JJ
