OK, you’ve been hanging around and suffering through a lot of old Sundays lately, and I’m going to make it up to you by showing you this really interesting old A&J from 1993. Off the top of my head, I couldn’t have told you myself exactly when Mary Lou first appeared in the strip, but it turns out it was exactly 20 years ago. Yipes! Did I know then that they’d go on to marry? Of course not! I didn’t even have any plans to bring Mary Lou back when I drew this. I just thought it had been a sweet little story from the beach that was worth another mention. OK, so. Inevitably this brings up the question which is coming up more frequently, “Whatever the &%$#@* happened to Gene and Mary Lou?” I’ll address that, but not today. Probably not tomorrow, either, because you know how Fridays are around here. Next week, however, we’ll get into it.
