When this series appeared in the newspapers, a young man
wrote chastising me severely, because he had to ask his
mother what the strip was about. In his opinion, I
shouldn't draw comic strips he can't understand. I
wonder if he expected to be hired as a consultant?
Myself, I remember as a boy puzzling over cartoons I
didn't understand and reveling in the satisfaction of
enlightenment. I think they call it learning. Anyway, I
really like those letters that begin, "I don't always
understand your stuff, but I like it!" The
