I’ve been busy getting ready for the holidays, but this is also the time of year I start thinking about my spring garden. Next year, I plan to put in an ambitious and entirely new herb bed. I thought maybe some of you, too, are thinking about spring already and could appreciate this old cartoon from April, 2007. It mentions Jules Feiffer. At appearances, I’m often asked what cartoonists influenced me when I was young. I usually neglect to mention Mr. Feiffer, but his wry observational writing and his understated drawing surely influenced me for I admired both greatly in my formative period. Plus, his sophistication and urbanity were early hints that there might be something different beyond my familiar Alabama horizon.
