Best Laid Plans

By Jimmy Johnson

This old A&J is from July, 2004.  I don’t have much time to post anything more, but I’m hoping it will be an eventful week around here.

That will teach Janis to stop leaving clothes laying around the house. He could have arrived at a much more inopportune moment!

One of my all-female staff told me about once when one of her teenage daughters came in from a date and needed to ask her something. Fortunately, she knocked on their bedroom door first, or it would have been a very inopportune moment.

The next day, the daughter said to her, “I know what y’all were doing last night.”

“What do you mean?” my A-FS member asked innocently.

“Your panties were on the nightstand.”

A classic A&J. Fortunately Gene arrived later rather or sooner or else quite a bit of embarrassment would have ensued.

Ghost, just what was your business with an A-FS?

BTW, lingerie on a nightstand is no proof of anything; could be stuff merely not yet put away from the laundry.

I have no idea what A-FS means. I even Googled it.

I’ve been the kid in this cartoon. Talk about embarrassing!

Sitting in a waiting room. (Such is our life, some days.)

Favorite t-shirt seen in the boutique (earlier) today:
    “Resting Beach Face”

Re-examining the cartoon above, I don’t think Gene even noticed the apparel on the back of the sofa. No harm; no foul.

Plus, it looks like he just plopped down onto the couch with his drink, so he may have missed the soundtrack…

Today’s Zits reminds me of JJ’s humor: https://www.sfgate.com/comics/ck/Zits/

Loved Zits this morning. Snuffy Smith was pretty good too.

You’re right – it is indeed a classic.

I was very happy for my parents when I knew they were busy, and gave plenty of space. I liked Ann Landers method of keeping kids busy when in the mood. She recommended taking a roll of 50 pennies, remove one, and throw the rest in the yard telling the kids to find all 50. Of course one story had the kids come back too soon with 53.

Regular Wednesday in Tulsa for Jackie ‘s medical appointments. Had enough of a break to have a leisurely lunch so decided to go to our favorite Vietnamese restaurant. Arrived to find it had changed ownership.

On the plus side, Jackie and I agreed the already awesome food was even better. 🙂

On the negative side, our favorite short-short-wearing Vietnamese waitress (for obvious reasons, I referred to her as “Hot Legs”) is apparently no longer there. 🙁

At least I still have a picture of Hot Legs that Jackie took about a year ago.

Re 6-5-19 real-time cartoon: Probably the homosalate ingredient in her sunscreen. If so, watch out, Arlo. It’ll penetrate your tongue.

Common tern adult was sitting here when I arrived, then left, revealing the one egg. The several black-capped small terns can be told apart by bill details / big Peterson F G to Birds of NA. Common are not common.

Above webcam can move. Nest must be straight below it, on a sandy spot. View was close up, adult tern seen from above, took up much of the screen. Lots of Atlantic puffin nests among the boulders, one with a webcam up close. Peace,

This week’s Snuffy Smith and Barney Google are pretty good…at least yesterday and today. I don’t think that we will see Arlo and Janis but I never thought A&J would be in Blondie, either.

I have been looking for a Sunday strip that I cut out of the paper but have lost. It is one of my favorites. I have spent the last 3 days going through the 1889 pages of your blog (didn’t make it through all of them 🙂 ) and haven’t found it.

The one I have in mind has Arlo working around the house on a ladder and singing the Jimmy Buffet song, “Why Don’t We Get Drunk.” As he reaches the chorus, he looks down, sees Gene looking up at him and sings “Why don’t we sing another song?”

I would love to see it in reprint.
