Familiar Circus

I’ve always understood that the venerable comic panel “Family Circus” was supposed to be named “Family Circle,” hence the circle within which the drawing appears that is carried on to this day. However, lawyers at “Family Circle” magazine needed to earn their retainer and persuaded King Features to make the necessary changes. Likewise, The Flintstones were supposed to be the Flagstones, but—proving turnabout is fair play—King Features went to bat on behalf of the family in their comic strip “Hi & Lois,” the Flagstons. Of course, if you hang around comics Web sites, you probably know all this, but, Hey! It’s Monday. Enjoy the 2009 adventures of Little Arlo.
