Going around the world

I came across a story this morning that says we all have unique bacterial cultures growing on our skin. Researchers say that bacterial DNA possibly could be used to link an individual to a specific place, like fingerprints. However, a suspect would not have to carelessly leave a largely intact fingerprint. Anything the person touches, presumably with any portion of bare skin, could be used to build a chain of forensic evidence. Kind of gives a new meaning to “good” bacteria and “bad” bacteria, doesn’t it? This raises a lot of questions, such as, “Why don’t I, as a law-abiding citizen, feel better about stories like this?” We should have plenty of time to discuss it, though. This technology is a long way from the courtroom, according to the story.
