Remember: think “summer hours” these days when you think of arloandjanis.com. I always enjoyed drawing the beach scenes. They provided relief from the ordinary, just like a real trip to the beach. In fact, for a long time the family would travel to the beach at least once a year, for an extended series of comic strips; these excursions eventually had a major impact on the strip itself, as you know. All of this arose, I suppose, because I always enjoyed the sea and the shore as a younger man. Plus, drawing sand and even water, once I got the hang of it, was simple yet produced rewarding seascapes that were interesting and different.
