Here’s a hummingbird cartoon from 2003 to go with the cartoon in today’s newspapers. A couple of readers already have expressed concern that I might be dooming millions of hummingbirds to a snowy death for the sake of a cavalier cartoon gag. However, I stand by today’s newspaper cartoon: do not take your hummingbird feeders down out of concern the little fellows will stay around and party instead of taking care of business, i.e. migrating. Their brains are small, but they’re not that dumb. What better authority can I cite than birdwatchers.com? Personally, I have plans next year to plant more shrubs that will attract the little scudders. There is some good information at the aforementioned link about what plants hummingbirds like.
