As I was saying yesterday, I spent several hours this past weekend ripping and burning music. Well, to be exact, I was ripping and “syncing.” I haven’t done much of this sort of thing since I used to make copies of my cassette tapes with my component stereo. However, I tired of staring at the empty USB port in the dashboard of the family car and decided to do something about it. First, I tried to hook up the iPod directly, but my version is an old one with the half-screen and the round touchpad. Apparently, the car’s sound system does not support pre-Colombian devices, so I loaded on a flash drive enough music to get me anywhere I would conceive of driving. I know. Most of you have been doing this sort of thing for years, but it was all pretty new to me. I can now listen to, among others, Randy Newman, John Fogarty, Norah Jones, Little Feat, Nina Simone, Muddy Waters, Jackson Browne, George Benson, The Band, Eric Clapton, Marcus Roberts, Jimmie Rodgers, Leonard Cohen and Cole Porter. What’s on your flash drive?
