I don’t have a lot of time today. I noticed yesterday the fried-egg debate broke anew. Someone mentioned “bird in a nest,” which is a slice of bread with a hole cut in the middle wherein the egg is fried. This is one of my favorite methods of cooking an egg, but we always called it “toad in the hole.” I think, however, that the true British “toad in the hole” is something else altogether. Now, I’m off to breakfast!
