Well, it depends. According to the Alaska Native Languages Center of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, “Eskimo” is an acceptable term to most Alaskans, presumably including indigenous Alaskans, although it is considered derogatory in some portions of the Arctic Circle. And I’ll bet most Eskimos have refrigerators.
I thought it was interesting that the past election featured principals with extremely close ties to Alaska and Hawaii, our newer states respectively. I’m not aware of a previous presidential election in which either state was prominently represented.
