I spoke to a great audience in Auburn yesterday at lunchtime, members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Auburn University. OLLI is a public continuing education program that is open to everyone but tends to attract people who are, well… our age. It was standing room only, and they were very kind to me, often laughing at remarks that I hadn’t intended to be funny. That’s the kind of audience a humorist wants. Being a graduate of Auburn University, I considered them a hometown audience, and in my experience they can be the hardest. I want to please so badly that I can tense up and fail to deliver my best. The OLLI people wouldn’t let me tense up. It was fun.
