It isn’t every day I get to draw a bulldozer in Arlo & Janis, so this one, from this week ten years ago, was fun. Well, I must say, the Perseid Meteor Shower was a bit of a let-down at my house. I got out of bed at 3 a.m. and saw nothing. I confess: I stood at the bathroom window for 30 seconds and looked up at the night sky. I told myself if I saw a spectacular fireball, I would get dressed and go outside for the full show. Nothing! So I went back to bed. Speaking of rocks in space, Rick Bagby, one of our regulars, sent me a link to today’s Astronomy Picture of the Day from NASA. It shows the orbits of known asteroids and other assorted big chunks that could hit earth and ruin an otherwise good day for a lot of earthlings. Keep in mind, there are a lot of unknown ones out there, too. The Astronomy Picture of the Day Web site is pretty amazing. Check out the archives while you’re there.
