It’s here! The first day of spring! Or it will be, as I write this. It arrives officially at 1:32 p.m. EDT, according to the U.S. Naval Observatory. When I lived on the Tennessee River in another life, there was a nearby general store called “The Sportsman’s One-Stop.” With the coming of a new year, the proprietors would start a countdown on one of those portable signs with the moveable letters. It would say something like, “____ NUMBER OF DAYS UNTIL SPRING!” Every day they’d dutifully change the number until spring arrived. The One-Stop has changed hands at least once since then, but I hope the tradition continues.
