This comic strip from early October, 2001, was from the first batch of work I produced after the attacks of September 11. It was a hard time to be a humorist. You might remember: it was openly discussed on TV and such, comics voicing their ambivalence about plying their trade when nothing seemed funny. That was the shock talking. We all know, from experience private and shared, that humor can be most valuable at the worst of times. We all know how much fun a funeral can be. Of course, there was little bittersweet during the aftermath of the attacks. It was a time of horror and disbelieve. Yes, there are times to ration humor and laughter. Still, they are never expendable.
