Victor Whogo?

I double-checked before posting this cartoon, because of the recent faux pas (That’s French, you know!) involving Andrew Lloyd Webber and Les Miserables. Victor did, indeed, write The Hunchback of Notre Dame, published in 1831. The popularity of the novel led to renewed appreciation of the old cathedral Notre Dame de Paris and to a needed restoration. The cathedral today, beloved by tourists and pickpockets, is pretty much the result of that effort. The literary version referenced in the comic strip is the 1996 Walt Disney film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which takes beaucoup liberties with M. Hugo’s original.
