Arlo and Janis has a lot of readers in the midwestern and the northeastern United States, and they’re getting a lot of snow, from everything I’m hearing. It beats ice, doesn’t it?
I canned nine quarts of Brunswick stew this week, when I should have been drawing cartoons. I found my basic recipe online a couple of years ago, and it’s very good. It comes from Spanky’s Seafood Grill and Bar on St. Simons Island, Georgia, where I played out a brief but intense chapter of my life back in the 1970s. St. Simons Island is off the coast from Brunswick, which claims to be where the stew originated. This claim can be and is debated.
