I was learning to be a cartoonist about the time this cartoon appeared in 1989. Until then, many Arlo and Janis cartoons depended heavily upon a written joke; the characters’ main purpose was to deliver dialog. A cartoonist isn’t practicing the art to full effect if the drawing itself isn’t conveying at least part of the message. Put another way, this cartoon wouldn’t make any sense if you couldn’t see the action. Many of my earlier cartoons would have made sense if you could only read the words. Well, as much sense as they were going to make.
The snow event isn’t over where I sit; I’ll give you the weather news tomorrow.
