A pithy comic strip about life, love, lust and puthy cats.

Extra, Extra!

Welcome!

By Jimmy Johnson

If you’re reading this, it means Arlo & Janis dot com is back online. The lights are on, and the refrigerator is humming. The first thing you will notice is, the furniture has been rearranged. The space has, I hope, a sleeker, more contemporary feel. That’s about it.

It wasn’t supposed to be this way. I was forced to relearn so much of what goes into today’s multitudinous methods of quick, user-friendly website construction that most of my time and energy was consumed grappling with technical issues. After many false starts in the recent past, I persevered and was relieved to learn I still can learn. But enough crowing! There’s a lot more to learn and do.

The price to be paid for my technical education so far has been what we in the website trade call “content.” To meet my self-imposed deadline to reopen, I have given short shrift to the reason we’re here—to amuse ourselves!  I have thoughts about what I’d like to do with this space, but I simply haven’t had time to address them. You might call this site a “placeholder.” You will be excused for rolling your eyes at that; the last time I attempted a major renovation, the “placeholder” was in use for years. I don’t think that will be the case this time.

Anyway, there’s this: if you enjoyed the previous site, bare bones as it was, you’ll enjoy this one. At a minimum, it will consist of the same features and be updated regularly. Having said that, it might take a few more days to have every basic element fully functional. Bugs are everywhere. Watch your drink.

Finally! I’ve only had the daily strip to remind me I’m somewhat ‘normal’!
So much you draw that I live or have lived. Even the cat…
    Thank you.

    Hi! Congrats on the return!

This isn’t actually a “bug report” but just mentioning a preference, which may be an oversight if not a decision. The navigation area (previous, next, and a few numbered links) appears fine at the lower left on *initial view* of any page, where the blog entry text is truncated and there is a “Don’t stop now!” link. But upon following that link, and viewing the full text of the entry, the Comments are shows up but the navigation does not!

As a result, from a page like this one with full text and comments, the rather roundabout way to continue to another page seems to be to use the *browser* “Back” button to get to the initial, truncated view of the page, and then scroll down to use the navigation there.

Mr. Johnson, I sent an e-mail years ago telling you how much my wife and I had enjoyed your Arlo and Janice. You are consistently funny and we were constantly amazed at how much they remind us of ourselves. I recently lost my wife in March so even as I read everyday I’m reminded how much she like your cartoons. I guess the big question in my mind is…ARE THEY GOING TO MOVE OR NOT!!! Thanks for a great cartoon. Sincerely, Thomas Goodrich
