I give up! After more than six weeks, this is where the Web project stands. No, this is not the new Web site. I continue to run into technical issues that stand between where I am and where I want to go. I thought I could work around them, but the little buggers got wise and thwarted me again. And no, I’m not really giving up, but I’m going to stop boring you with this stuff. For now, I’m going to post a standard WordPress blog, the same thing we’ve been doing for a decade. Eventually, the new site will come on line. Between now and then, I am going back to business as usual, except the maintenance page will reappear for a few hours most days.
What a mess!

I’m sorry you’ve had so much difficulty with this Jimmy! If I knew anything about WordPress etc I’d try to help, but my knowledge ends at old fashioned HTML ( maybe a little PHP)! My nephew, a programmer, often makes fun of me for still writing my webpages the old fashioned way. 🙁
I may have to break down and ask someone who knows something about this.
Sorry it’s giving you so much trouble, Jimmy. Glad to have you {and the site} back.Hang in there and ask online for help. It can’t hurt and might help you find your way to where you want to go. One of my favorite science fiction authors posted about the frustrations he and his wife were having getting a new floor installed. One of his readers seems to have contacts with the company that was giving him a hard time. They communicated and now the floor issues are being resolved correctly.
In reply to Mark: Also, Jimmy, tell us where you asked for online help, because some of us readers certainly are able and will want to help.
No defeat, no surrender! Remember Churchill: “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” We’re here for you Jimmy.
Yeah it is SO frustrating…. Maybe you can contact Gene. He may have built a website for his business. Oh wait a minute, that won’t work. Thanks for all of your hard work.
I am glad the Orphans can get in from the cold!
While it is not that cold today – it is snowing — again.
We are going for a record for the month of February. Back in ’62
1962 that is.
We were 3.5 inches short – and there is 6″ in driveway.
But that is not official.
Glad to have even this kind of site back, Mayor JJ. No doubt, we shall all welcome the new site whenever it is done or, at least, usable. Until that time, we are again able to communicate.
eMb: (if you are here) Do the mice from the Decorah nest – many of which I have seen scampering abut the nest during night hours – actually live in the cellar region of said nest? MBH opines they may actually reside on the forest floor and commute to the nest.
Piggybacking on DaveP’s offer, if 40 year old knowledge of FORTRAN will help, I’m your guy…
Ahhh… life is good… the Village is open!
Jimmy:
Have you considered hiring one of the ten-year-old children in the neighborhood? They seem to have an innate understanding of such things.
For anyone who needs it: To fix a clogged john, pour about 5 ounces of dishwashing liquid into the bowl and let it sit for, say, a half hour. Plunger will probably then be able to fix things up. One assumes that earlier plunger usage was to no avail.
Also be sure to use the right sort of plunger that properly fits the drain at the bottom of the bowl:

Stay away from the cartoon ones… like in Tom & Jerry… those are for use on drains (floors, sinks, etc.).
Jimmy, what we’ve got here is fine with me. It’s pretty much the same blog we are accustomed to, and I am not looking for anything more elaborate. It’s nice to see the Orphans rallying round, and to find what mischief they’ve gotten into.
Mischief? Us?
Last night I found out what an OD of insulin can do to you. Woke up sweating (glucose level below 70), ate my emergency candy from the bedside table, went back to sleep under just a light blanket… woke up again shivering badly because the room had cooled down to 53F.
Definitely a night to remember! And to realize that if you don’t have a late night snack you don’t need that final insulin shot!
Or at least I should have recalculated the dose when I realized someone else had finished the grapes.

Cool article, TR. thanks.
I was going to check on “previous” but I couldn’t find it on the page. Did I just miss it, or has it disappeared? Anyone know?
