Odd as it may seem, I’m not the expert on any of this, but I think I’m making progress. We were talking about GoComics.com, the Andrews McMeel Universal website where hundreds of comics, including A&J, are posted every day. Specifically, we were talking about “liking” stuff there, very specifically “liking” Arlo & Janis. Turns out visitors must sign up for a GoComics account to be able to “like” and to comment and to do other stuff. That’s the not-so-good news. The good news is, you can sign up for an account for free, and it won’t kill you! But wait! There’s more! You can pay $20 a year and view comics 24 hours a day without those jumpy ads, plus you can build pages of your personal favorites and have them emailed to you. I’m really not trying to sell you anything: I only recently have begun doing this myself, right down to paying my bosses 20 bucks. I can say it’s a pretty good deal. My experience at GoComics.com is more enjoyable. In parting, I want to thank those of you who did find your way to GoComics.com yesterday and “liked” that dreadful cartoon. You rocked the house! But we’re going to talk more about that next post.

I just call that efficient. Why make multiple trips to the car when it isn’t necessary?
A gocomic account is painless. Can I assume the heart is the like?
Just want to mention that I’ve had a free account with GoComics for years. (It was called something else then) and outside of the ads getting more intrusive I can’t recall getting any spam derived from that account.
What I do wonder about is if I go to the paid account do the artists see any of that money or is it all dumped into the corporate swimming pool?
tww
I actually have a goComics free account but I never book marked it. To get to goComics I click on the link from this site everyday. If you are worried about goComics sending annoying junk emails or spam, don’t. I have never gotten anything but security related emails from them.
I signed up for an acct. on GoComics so I could click the little heart. I had no idea and didn’t care what all those icons stood for (seems like they were introduced in the re make of the GoComics site some time back). One reason I rarely sign up for stuff I can view for free is I don’t want my email address out there “in the wild”. So, I signed up for a free email address on gmail to use for this kinda thing and keep the spam out of my personal and work inboxes.

Peace,
Oh pooh! Stop fussing about your emails attracting spam. Just don’t visit “dating” sites or buy “enhancement” drugs from Canada and no one is going to bother you.
Now why would I know that?
Ghost just said people would jump to conclusion he is buying Canadian pharmaceuticals. Sorry baby!
No, my late husband and I still get the occasional one on that account addressed to him.
But I am and have ALWAYS been pubic with my name, address, email, Facebook. It does not result in a flood of anything and the monsters don’t move in to your closet or under the bed.
So I was looking at my favorite cartoons and when I saw Ed Crankshaft, I couldn’t help think of Arlo:

JJ Thanks for the heads up on the free sign in. I went to sign up and realized that I already had! I have already liked several of your comics.
This was a personal favorite. It was only 2 months after my Dad’s death and 18 years to the day after my Mom’s fatal accident. It went up on the refrigerator and stayed there until we got a stainless steel one.

Oddly enough I don’t get spam email from GoComics but from some of the “please sign our petition” sites I have clicked on. Neither do the ads bother me. Maybe I’m just lucky?

Jimmy, that retro looks like me when I come from the store! You got it just right. And I’ve always liked that strip from the first time I saw it.
I’m getting a lot of snail mail these past few years from various groups claiming to be supporting Native American reservations. All because I made a single donation to such a group about 5 years ago. Their willingness to share my info (including my phone number from on the check) made me retaliate by tossing all those envelopes as they arrive.
And I no longer answer the phone when I don’t recognize the caller ID. If it’s important, they can leave a message.
I’ve been a GoComics.com premium member for years, as has my wife. The no ad experience is great and it’s important to support comics in general. We also subscribe, in print, digital or both, to three newspapers that carry A & J. I’m from a newspaper family of several generations, so we also gave at the office! ????
I guess I got sent to moderation for posting from the phone. I have been goComics subscriber since the merger with comics.com. I also subscribe to ComicsKingdom. I got my start in adult life running s press for newspapers so I have a soft spot for newsprint. I am almost priced out of the market these days. The San Antonio paper is up to about 480 a year. I got a deal on groupon, but disability only goes so far.
Good evening Villagers,,,,
won’t be on the radar for a couple/three/ days….but in the meantime, I leave you with this..that is if you like Women of Ireland and Jeff Beck….this is really good…

Yesterday’s walking cartoon was not dreadful, and I especially liked the winged shoes.
My wife must have those, too, because I can never keep up with her.

…and not in that particular order.
Those who have followed the Village for a few years will recall that Ghost was always saying he would get a pair of jeans if he ever got down to a size 36 waist. Well, he did and he has several pair of those jeans now. I just watched him try them on tonight.
Ladies, he is one hot hunk in those jeans! He asked me if they made bis butt look big? I said on the. Contrary they made it look really studly.
Next we work on the white linen slacks and white jeans. He said the last time he wore those was when Don Johnson was on t.v. in Miami Vice.
TruckerRon:
I return the unwanted junk mail prepaid envelopes empty especially this time of the year, medicare renewal.
Not only do I not answer the phone when I do not recognize the caller ID, I have the ringer and answer machine turned off.
Cell phone is off except when I need to make a call.

Funny, my wife LIKED “that dreadful cartoon”!
But you can write off the $20 as a business expense, right? 🙂
Jimmy – Yesterday’s cartoon was one of your very best! Used it on my wife – so to speak.
