When
I was a student at Auburn University, I worked in the
art and engineering department of Johnston & Malone, a
college bookstore. During my time there, a
company called Texas Instrument introduced a miraculous
gadget called a pocket calculator. Indeed, engineering
geeks were lining up to plunk down in excess of 300
bucks for one, and engineering professors were saying
it'd never replace the slide rule.
