    HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!
2020 went out with a spray…our dog slipped out the door at exactly midnight–and ran into a skunk! She immediately ran back into our bedroom. Spent the next hour cleaning her up. Today she smells….ok. Welcome 2021.

Hey, is that you in the last panel of today’s strip at GoComics, JJ? Happy 2021!

Re 1-2-21 retro cartoon: Well, it certainly appears someone got rung in.

Thanks for another great year with Arlo & Janis and the Village, JJ. Happy New Year.

Yes, I do believe that’s our fearless artist making an appearance in today’s live strip. Is that a first? It’s a welcome one. Also….2021 may not look any different than 2020 but it sure FEELS different. Let’s hope that this seems-like-Groundhog-Day-every-day hellhole is on its last legs and we can get back to something approaching “normal” – whatever that is. Abundant vaccines, masks off, hopefully. Here’s to a healthier new year. Best Wishes everyone!

Unfortunately I will continue quarantine between the broken leg and cancer. But I too hope for a new “normal”.
Right now still trying to get my clothes hung up within reach and figure out where to keep walker, porta potty and wheelchair!

Big event today is lucky lunch from country diner 800 feet away. Black eyed peas, collards, pork chop and corn bread. With sugar free cheese cake for dessert!

Except she closes on Wednesday Ghost and I will not starve from breakfast through dinner.

I don’t know if that’s Jimmy in the last panel. If so, is your nose really that big?

    Happy New Year everyone….

Re 1-1-21 real-time comic: They say the memory is the second thing to go as you age. (I don’t remember what the first one is.) 2020 may go down as the year I started to lose my memory. (And whatever that other one is.) So, I need a little help.
I am assuming that panels 1, 2 & 3 are from cartoons Jimmy did during 2020. If that is the case, could someone pleased explain to me what the heck is going on in panel 2? (It seems a little familiar, but I’m not sure I saw it during 2020.) Oh, and if that is not the case, and they are all originals, could someone pleased explain to me what the heck is going on in panel 2?

Ghost, I think panel 2 is one of Arlo’s blowups at something in a college football game. Janis was probably leaning on him, and when he jumped up he tumbled her to the floor.

I think they are all original. Panel 2 *looks* like she was on his lap while watching a game and got dumped unexpectedly.

OK, I can buy that. Arlo looks very much in character in panel #2. (As Janis looks very much in character in panel #3.) Perhaps the fact she seems to be wearing yoga pants in #2 distracted me. 🙂

Pretty sure panel #4 is Jimmy by Jimmy.

Anybody working from home doesn’t need to shave. And right now, you don’t need to shave if you work in an office because your mask will cover most of your face anyway.

I can’t let mine go too much though. Or it will keep my CPAP from fitting right. Besides, I don’t want a beard. I tried to do a mustache once at my ex’s request, but it grew in so slowly it wasn’t worth the effort.

I’m retired, so I don’t have to shave ever – but, while in my youth I shaved once or thrice a week, now I do it every day. Why? Because I have discovered that, while dark stubble can give you that dangerous bad-boy look, white stubble only gives you that scary wino look………..

Happy – heathy – safe New Year to all!
Sympathizing with Jackie as I entered 2020 in a wheel chair with 2 broken feet and and broken ankle – but no clue as what we would face in 2020. Happy to say – both feet and the ankle are now fine – wish the rest of the world was too
But hope you can enter 2022 in good health – and out of the wheel chair –
May this year (2021) be better for all

Thanks; I remember the other two, but I still don’t remember the 2-10-20 one. And that was even (sorta*) pre-COVIC-19. Guess I just missed it somehow.
*According to WHO, on that day there were only 12 new confirmed cases and no deaths reported in the entire US,

The last panel in New Years strip is of course Mr. Johnson, the cartoonist. He is seldom seen in photographs but I happen to have seen one from when he began Arlo and Janis, one from when he toured with Comicon and one when he visited his ex-wife’s gift shop and art gallery for the exhibition of art from Arlo and Janis.

Yes, it is Jimmy and very well done self cartoon.

As I mentioned my injured eye the other day, it is fair to mention how rapidly things have improved. There is no pain any longer, I can see well enough to do 3-d distances, and my vision is only somewhat blurry. Thanks be to the Almighty! My MBH is in charge of dropping antibiotics into that eye, while I’m in charge of dropping fake tears into her eyes. How touching….

Southern Living, as they are wont to do, emailed me a recipe collection today. It’s titled “Our Most Popular Recipes Of 2020”. Their marketing department might want to rethink that. I’m not sensing a great desire on the part of anyone to relive much of anything from 2020.

  19. TruckerRon Avatar

I’d rather relive things from classic TV shows featuring talents most young people will never hear of, like Dean Martin and Caterina Valente (who, by the way, is 89 and living in Switzerland):

Ghost really is an excellent chef and is feeding me meals that are healthy, attractive and delicious. I eat every bite ( which wasn’t true in my month in the hospital)

With no way to get to the kitchen or the grocery I get to request and suggest items. No way to cheat. Hopefully no way to gain either! Bon Appetit!

When someone is seriously ill or injured it seems most of your time awake is spent caring for the convalescent.
Ghost does a wonderful job. His meals are delicious and we are staying within calorie and nutrition limits.

When it comes to broken bones, people can be more able to take care of themselves than you’d expect. About five or six years ago, my sister took a fall and busted her kneecap. It didn’t take long before she was able to move around on her own, only needing help getting out of a chair, or into and out of my car. When I partially broke my kneecap and wrist two years ago, my biggest problem was getting myself upright, but once I was up I was OK. I guess it all depends on the individual and which bones. It was much worse with Mom, because she had end stage Parkenson’s and getting her in and out of a wheel chair wasn’t easy. At the time we lived in a gated retirement community and several times we had to call Security for help because we couldn’t get her out of the car and into the chair on our own.
