This
is the kind of thing that gets me in trouble sometimes.
Obviously, not everyone who reads this is going to know
that Harvey, the invisible rabbit in the play, was a
Pooka--a "mischievous spirit in Irish folklore," to
quote the American Heritage Dictionary. My
philosophy of humor is somewhat counter to that which
has guided the newspaper comic strip for a century. The
Golden Rule of Comics Success dictates the joke should
be understandable to the largest number of readers
possible, including the...um...less complex
readers. I don't think humor should be that easy. (more) |
